Automated Backups in Softaculous

What Are Automated Backups?

Automated Backups let Softaculous create scheduled backups (daily, weekly, or monthly) of your scripts like WordPress, Joomla, etc. This helps protect your site without manual work.

Important: This feature may be disabled by your hosting provider. Backups use your disk space, so choose a low Backup Rotation number if space is limited.

Option 1: Enable During New Installation

1. Log into your control panel (e.g. cPanel) and open Softaculous.

2. Select your script (e.g. WordPress under Blogs) and click Install.

3. Fill in the usual details (domain, directory, admin info, etc.).

4. Click Advanced Options.

5. Set:

  • Backup frequency: Once a Day / Once a Week / Once a Month
  • Backup Rotation: e.g. 5 (keeps the last 5 backups — oldest one auto-deletes)

6. Click Install.

Done! Backups will now run automatically on your chosen schedule.

Option 2: Enable or Change for an Existing Installation

1. Log into your control panel and open Softaculous.

2. Click on your existing installation in the list.

3. Find the Automated Backups section.

4. Set or update:

  • Backup frequency: Once a Day / Once a Week / Once a Month (or Don’t Backup to turn off)
  • Backup Rotation: number of backups to keep (e.g. 3–7)

5. Click Save Installation Details.

That’s it — automated backups are now active or updated for that site.

Quick Tips

  • If you don’t see these options → your host has disabled Automated Backups (ask support).
  • You may get email notifications after each backup (if enabled on server).
  • Use manual backups (via the Backup icon) if you need one-time copies.
